If I'm going to be opening
myself up to rejection, I

Current Outlook on Recent Genre Change:
Curiously hopeful
Looking back over the last few decades, I find it interesting how my heroes have changed over the
years. When I was starting out at the ripe old age of thirteen, I was your typical geek girl,
worshipping Tolkien, Zimmer Bradley, Terry Brooks, David Eddings, and various other fantasy
writers. Then as I "matured," I became a literary snob, only wanting to talk about Hemingway,
Faulkner, and Fitzgerald, with occasional references to Walt Whitman and Edgar Allen Poe.
Now, I embrace them all and feel there's something to be learned from each one of them. My own
personal approach these days is to strive for fast-paced action and ever-ratcheting plots without
sacrificing character moments or evocative details. I also want to continually experiment with my
prose style and make sure that I service both my reader's id and intellect. If I do all of that, then I
know my works will have an impact, one that the reader will carry onward for some time afterward.
